UFC Fighter Profile -
Matt Serra
Matt Serra is a great submission fighter, he has
won several prestigious titles in Brazilian Jui -Jitsu.
His victory at TUF 4 is particularly impressive considering the
level of competition he went thru to earn it. Serra also
displayed his coaching ability as he "cornered" several fighters
during the competition, imo, he was the best corner man I have
ever seen/heard.
Matt is a serious student of the ground game
and the epitome of a professional fighter. He takes care
of himself, prepares, and has a plan for his fights.
He will be a threat anytime he steps into the ring and never
should be overlooked.
He does have some limitations that effect
betting strategy on him. His striking is average at best,
so it is important for him to win the match with his
considerable ground game. Serra is not quite strong enough
and allows fighters to regain their feet occasionally, where he
is not as good. I would like to see him finish his fights
more often and quicker, his fights tend to go the judges too
often. I like him as a small favorite against an
inferior opponent, where the price is not too high and he can
grind out his usually victory. Serra should also be
considered anytime his is a big underdog, a mistake by any
opponent and Matt has the ability to end the fight.
