UFC Fighter Profile - Diego Sanchez
Diego
made a name for himself by winning the very first TUF competion.
Although he is only 26 years old, Diego is a very experienced
MMA combatant posting 19 wins without a defeat. He has
been training with Greg Jackson in Albuquerque, NM for more than
6 years now and has improved steadily to the point where he is
under serious consideration for a title shot.
Diego is an
excellent ground fighter who's speed and quickness allow him to
take down his opponents at will. Sanchez has the unique
ability to put together wrestling "combinations."
His quickness, agility and balance allow him to transition from
one manuever to another like no one else. If his
submission attempt is not working he quickly moves to another
position. Diego is very good at reversing position and
moving from a defensive position to an advantage quickly.
Sanchez has
put up some good wins against above average competition and is
poised to move up into the championship quality competitors.
His striking ability is somewhat unknown at this point, but he
does possess a very good ground and pound. It will be
interesting to see how he fares against some of the fighters who
have superior strength and possess great takedown defenses.
As far as
betting goes, he has never lost. Diego finishes
fights effectively and rarely gets into trouble. If he is
up against and inferior opponent, he should be considered a
playable favorite. His game is strong enough to bet
against anyone if he is listed as an underdog in future events.
