Frank Mir was born

heavyweights
in the sport. Learning kenpo karate at his parents
school in Las Vegas was his introduction to the sport. But an eye opening
experience changed his style to what he now considers his strength: Brazilian
Jiu-Jitsu. Watching UFC 1 on pay per view with his family he witnessed
Royce Gracie defeat guys almost twice his size. Being stubborn, Frank
Mir thought that he could adjust his style and avoid submissions.
His father
persuaded him to get involved in wrestling instead, to help his base
and avoid submissions. Frank Mir lost his first 7 wrestling matches
before he
went on
to win the state championship in 1998.
Frank Mir is well
known by most in the sport, he has quite a few things that makes
him standout
above
others. Winning the title vs Tim Sylvia by way of breaking
Sylvia's arm during an armbar, his motorcycle accident that almost took
his life ,announcer of WEC or being a coach on season 8 of The Ultimate
Fighter. Frank Mir won the UFC heavyweight championship when he defeated
Tim Sylvia in 2004. Taking a 5-1 UFC record into the title fight, Mir
won by way of armbar :50 seconds into the 1st round. While watching the
fight you could actually see the forearm break in two and has been used
as a highlight for Frank ever since. After he won the championship he
never was able to rightfully defend his title because he had it stripped
from him when he got into a motorcycle accident that almost took his
life.
September 2004, while
riding his motorcycle to work outs Frank Mir was hit by a car going
over 50 mph. Sustaining major leg damage including broken
femur and major knee ligaments being torn, would put his heart to the
test. There was possibilities of him never walking again. From September
04 to november 05 he worked on rehabbing his knee to get back into fighting
shape, which he began training for an upcoming fight in November. Although
Mir lost his returning fight he had passed a major test with his knee.
Frank Mir has climbed
his way back up the championship ladder. Losing 2 of his 3 fights
after his return was not what he had in mind but he regained his confidence
and desire for this sport and has won his last 3 fights. Mir surprised
most MMA experts by completely dominating Big Nog with effective striking
to earn the UFC interim HW title.
