Cain Velasquez was
a very
successful collegiate wrestler, Velasquez earned All American honors
twice at powerhouse Arizona State University. Cain was also a
Junior College National Champion and 2-time 5A state champion in Arizona.
Velasquez has transitioned into the world of mma with great early success.
Before joining with the UFC Cain was having trouble finding
people to
fight him, going from 2 fights in 2006 to making his debut in the UFC
in April of 2008 with 0 fights in 2007. With his current group of training
partners at AKA he has nothing but improvement ahead of him. Velasquez's
5th career fight was first time he was taken out of the 1st round,
defeating Denis Stojnic by strikes in the 2nd round. Following
his fight he
was not pleased with his performance, stating that he has to get back
in the gym and continue to get better. It will be difficult for anyone
to live up to what this kid has been hyped as, but time will tell if
he really is the future of the heavyweight division.
