Brock Lesnar is one
of the most controversial signings in the history of the UFC, Brock
Lesnar
made
his UFC debut
February 2, 2008 against former UFC champion
Frank Mir. Brock brought 1 professional mma fight to the card and was
being paid among the elite of the sport. The contract Lesnar signed paid
him $250,000 per fight, with an additional win bonus of $250,000.
Most of the hardcore mma fans cannot stand Brock Lesnar because of his
days in the WWE. Brock's debut was one of the biggest PPV buys in UFC
history, and the amount of fans Lesnar brought to mma validates his
big contract. Frank Mir (Mur as Brock called him) won the fight 1 minute
30 seconds into
the
fight. He caught Lesnar in a kneebar after being dominated
early. The experience showed Lesnar has talents and weaknesses.
MMA veteran Heath Herring was next up for Brock in the
UFC and Lesnar dominated for 15 minutes to win a unanimous decision.
Brock Lesnar was
born in South Dakota. The work ethic he learned as a
child lead
to
what he
has achieved as an adult. Lesnar went 33-0 as a senior high
school wrestler, earning him a full scholarship to the University of
Minnesota. Brock Lesnar won the 2000 NCAA
championship in the heavyweight division. Prior to joining Minnesota
he went to Junior
College at Bismarck Junior College. Lesnar earned such
credentials as two-time NJCAA All-American, two-time NCAA All-American,
two-time Big Ten Conference Champion and the 2000 NCAA heavyweight champion
with a career college record of 106-5.
Brock Lesnar chose
the WWE after graduation instead of Olympics because he was
in
need
of the guaranteed money he would get. Brock wasn't from
a family of money and he knew that what the WWE was offering would help
out him and his family. "The Next Big Thing" as Lesnar was
called in the WWE went on to become one of the biggest stars of the organization
from 2002 to 2004.
Brock Lesnar tried
out with the Minnesota Vikings after the WWE. Lesnar was offered a
roster spot in NFL Europe
but declined and went back to pro wrestling
for a few years before giving mma a shot. Brock fought once before joining
the UFC defeating Min Soo Kim by referee stoppage due to ground and pound
in under 70 seconds.
